This panel will address the current landscape of Opportunity Zones, including what they mean for business owners, investors and communities. This will be a highly interactive and free program featuring Darci Congrove of GBQ Partners, Mandy Mallott of City of Columbus, John Weaver of Stansbury Weaver, and moderated by Matt Armstead of Horizon Two Labs.
Darci Congrove, CPA - Managing Director of GBQ Partners
Darci is actively involved in the community and serves as Board Chair of the Columbus-Franklin County Finance Authority, Board member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer of Committee4Children and Past Board Chair for the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio.
Darci graduated from the Leadership Columbus program in June 2003 and was named by Columbus Business First as one of Columbus’ Forty Under 40 young professionals in 2002.
Darci also frequently speaks in the community on topics of tax, wealth planning, and business management issues.
Mandy Mallott - The City of Columbus
Mandy Mallott is a Business Development Specialist for the City of Columbus Department of Development focused on job creation activities for the City, partnering to grow the Columbus economy through property development, and business expansion. These partnerships have led to job creation commitments of over 121,000 new and retained jobs and $7.3 billion in private sector investments over the last 10 years. In addition to her work with businesses and developers, Mandy leads the City’s site selection and opportunity zone efforts.
Prior to working for the City of Columbus, Mandy worked in international trade enforcement for the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration, in trade negotiation at the United States Trade Representative, in federal economic development for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and on the Job Creation and Retention Tax Credits with the Ohio Department of Development. Mandy attended the Ohio State University graduating with a J.D. and Masters in Public Policy and Management.
John Weaver - Partner of Stansbury Weaver Limited
A founding partner at Stansbury Weaver, John specializes in intellectual property and corporate governance. Prior to starting Stansbury Weaver, John worked as appointed counsel for juvenile and adult criminal matters at both the trial and appellate level while developing a practice advising start-ups and small businesses. Outside of work, most of John’s free time is spent with his twin boys and three dogs.
Matt Armstead - Partner of Horizon Two Labs
As an entrepreneur, senior executive, strategic investor and advisor, Matt Armstead’s talents combine vision, business development and the ability to nurture a seedling of an idea into something tangible… a scalable business! A passion for startups, early stage companies, data and analytics fuels his ability to direct companies to identify and execute better ways to engage their customers by leveraging the newest media, apps and technology.
Matt is the Executive Director of Horizon Two Labs, where he helps companies (big and small) develop their ideas into highly scalable businesses. He is a founding partner in ROOT Insurance and was previously the CEO and co-founder of Sprout It, a DIY gardening app which sold to Scotts Miracle Gro. Prior to that Matt successfully started and sold MobileWait, a guest management solution for restaurants, as the CEO and co-founder. In addition, Matt has been a Director at Fair Isaac and Experian with a focus on digital marketing, big data and predictive analytics, business development, and strategic partnerships.
